The Porsche 918 Spyder was widely considered to be the successor to the Carrera GT, and was the next step in Porsche’s hyper car revolution. At the time, the 918 was thought to be a tough sell for Porsche, which then prompted them to create the 918 owner preferential allocation program, or as it is widely known, the VIP program. This program allowed 918 buyers, who purchased directly from Porsche dealers, to be given priority allocation on all GT, special issue cars for a period of 10 years. In hindsight, anyone with means, likely would have purchased a 918 given the waitlists, ADM etc that became the norm in years to come on all  special Porsche road cars. One thing is for certain, this is a special car, with a special place in Porsche history.
